Were you surprised by your own response?
You might have even been surprised to realize that it was someone else, like a boss or the State.
If your answer WAS someone else, you need to consider a few things.

This reality is not uncommon - most of us rely on others. Most commonly a boss, a company, a corporation. We believe that by working hard for others, we will secure a nice nest egg for our retirement. We also believe that if we tuck the money away in a nice bank account or investment firm it will be safe and waiting for us so that we can enjoy life later.

Both of these thoughts are flawed. In regards to this, there is one indisputable fact - people who work for other people don't get rich. The people we work for may get rich, but the wealth more often than not, does not filter down. The reality is, we work hard for many years to make other people rich! That doesn't feel so good does it? Not only that, but we are not guaranteed a future of any kind. In these uncertain economic times, so many powerful people and organizations abuse their powers to rob the masses as retirement funds get stolen or lost forever. So much for our future!

This is scary stuff! If you've never before considered being responsible for your own financial health, present and future, maybe you should.
