Forex-and-redundancy

I wouldn't have believed that a very ordinary person like me, with no previous knowledge whatsoever, could learn to make more money in two hours a day from home, than I can working in industry. I thank God for redundancy.

I knew that redundancy was on its way. The writing was on the wall for the company I had worked with for the last 14 years. Not only that, but I knew I'd never get a similar position in my part of the world and moving, for me, wasn't really an option.

When you are actually staring your wife, three growing kids and a negative equity mortgage in the face - I have to tell you it's a most sobering situation.

I scanned the papers. I searched the Internet night after night. I even ran a classified ad, looking for anything that might help us keep a roof over our head when the blow came - as it inevitably would. In the end, it was none of these things but a coincidental talk with my wife's cousin that introduced me to a completely different life.

All my life I lived by the same belief patterns as my contemporaries. The same beliefs that my father and my grandfather had. You leave school, if you're really bright and your parents are of a mind, you may go to university. But for most of us, you leave school, get a job or training of some kind and then spend the rest of your life working eight hours a day to pay your way, have a decent home and bring up kids. You pay into a pension fund ready for the day when retirement comes and in between, the high points can be holidays, and high days off work, and weddings and funerals.

That's how it was for me, and I never questioned it. We had a good life without great expectations and little trauma, thank God - until redundancy, that is.

When Eric told me that he was learning to trade currency, I laughed like a drain. Eric is a working guy, just like me. No classy education and certainly not a high flying banker - it just seemed too ridiculous for words and I told him so. In fact, I told him he must have been a salesman's dream to have fallen for some scam or other.

Three weeks later I was dropping my youngest off for a 'sleep-in' with Eric's daughter - and he mentioned it again. 'I knew you'd laugh', he said - and took me in to show me what he was involved in, just sitting at home in the evening at his computer. At first I was amused - but before long my amusement turned to amazement as Eric took me through some of the steps and a video of his computer course.

Well, the rest is pretty obvious I'm sure. I took the computer course myself. I worried about my ability but as soon as I read the first cartoon joke in the first screen, I was hooked.

I wasn't made redundant after all, although there is yet another scare running around at the moment. But now I just don't care. I make more money before leaving for work every morning, than I do from my actual job. Right now, if I'm honest, I don't want to be jobless. My wages pay the mortgage and the housekeeping very nicely. But my wife no longer works, she doesn't need to, and we certainly are enjoying the nicer things in life with the extra money from my new 'part-time' occupation..

No, I don't want to be made redundant, but if I am, we have no worries at all because I have another income that no redundancy can ever touch. Forex has certainly changed our lives for the better in more ways than one.
